Free Video School
at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church
Introduction
Interested in making movies? Good. Go do it.
Okay; class dismissed.
It sounds flip, but it's true. The very best way to learn how to produce videos is to produce videos. Find the ministry where Christ is calling you, where your passion for service is strongest. Think through how video could help its ministry be more effective, and get started.
The wonderful thing about our approach to video at VHUMC is that you really can't mess it up too badly. Our system is built around "You shoot, we edit." You and your fellow pilgrims envision, design, and shoot. One of our highly-trained volunteers will help you edit it on our state of the art editing equipment, and then you're ready to show it to your audience and accept the accolades of your grateful public. You can learn all the principles we cover in Free Video School as you work, and you'll have fun doing it. And you won't have to read any more of our cheeky prose.
Now, for those who want more guidance before they get started, you can read here some simple principles that we've learned over time help you produce video more effectively and more easily. They will also be a gentle gift to your editors.
Most of the suggestions we make here are inappropriate for commercial video production. We have tailored them for use at VHUMC and other churches like ours, where volunteers are producing video programs on a limited budget.
