A stupid question- will I get his retirement for the rest of my life (when the time comes) based on what he'll make in the future, raises, higher paying jobs, etc, or just on what he's made since we've been married?

unless you get something in the divorce decree stating otherwise, it will just be for what you are entitled to by law for when you were married.

are you talking about company/private retirement or SS?

And do not assume that you will share your spouse's retirement as part of a divorce. There are far more divorces in which retirement is not shared than the ones where it is. You'll need to negotiate to share his retirement (or ask the judge to order it).

Depends on what the court order says.  If the court order says that you will get a percentage of his retirements in the future without specifically stating that it is limited to the value of what the contribution was during the marriage, then you will get a percentage of everything.
