Who wants to get healthy?

Often times, it is easier to workout/diet, change lifestyles if you have a support group....so I'm starting a "lets get healthy" support group thread here for any interested.
I gained a good 15 lb over the winter and I hate it....so bout a month ago, I decided to get it off. Started watching what I ate, and started power walking....started out slow at first, but now I have a pretty good regime going:
I powerwalk about 3-4 miles almost every night during the week, 6 - 10 miles on weekend days.
I've cut out the beer, cut out the junk food, eat one good meal a day, rest of day eat healthy cereal, yogurt, vegies, and fruit...oh and cottage cheese....I NEVER go hungry....
My goal is to take two inches off my waist.
Today I power walked 6 miles:
Had brundh of spanish omlette, 2 little slices of bacon and three small pancakes. Haven't had dinner yet, but anticipating a bowl of cereal...I'm partial to Raisen Bran Crunch these days...with a cup of yogurt later for a snack...maybe some fresh vegies too.

Well, I have the exercise thing down (I take Tae Kwon Do 3-5 times a week and have been going for over a year), I just need to get the weight down. Which means remembering to take my lunch with me to work.
On the bright side, muscle weighs more than fat (and I have gotten a lot stronger) and I haven't gained any weight. So that must mean that I am losing some of the fat.
I am considering joining Weight Watchers, but need to wait until after the refinance of my house (by the end of this month).

I'll join, I too have been watching what I eat.......and the exercise thing is going good for me. I signed up for fitness in college so I did the test in thing, and have been going at it at least 3 times a week. Key to losing weight and inches, less food, more exercise.

I'll join ya TC.
I call it my winter coat but just need to trim around the center and get better in shape. I already walk at work a hand few miles, eat reasonablely, use commonsense, increase activities (yes you do know what I am thinking!
). Only splurge once in a while on chocolate and make it small.
Plus my 14 yo is recruiting all her friends to walk the track at the local school every morning to get in shape for track and field.

Sunday, 11 March.
Been up since 7:00....mainly working on school stuff. Eathing late brunch consiting of a cup of yogurt....got a nice stew on cooking slowly for dinner later. Fixing to run couple errands, then when I get back, get my walking in....minimum 6 mile, but it is nice day, so might push to 8....then nice dinner of stew and more school work this evening....

OK...well I won't log in today since i plan on starting tomorrow..
But I promise myself that I WILL begin a healthier lifestyle tomorrow.
the way I figure it - we will get sunlight till about 7 PM - which should give me plenty of time to ride my bike for about an hour after work WOO HOO!!!
i will check in tomorrow morning and then afternoon and then evening...just to keep on track and stay disciplined
Thanks TC - for this thread - and even if no one jumps on the bandwagon - you and me can keep the thread alive and support each other, right?
And great job so far on the new lifestyle...keep it up and keep me updated!!

Jen,
I'm doing this whether anyone else does or not.....I put on too much weight, didn't feel well, and worst of all, noticed a significant drop in my sex drive.....I WILL get back in shape!
Just back from power walking...not sure how far it was 8 or 9 miles I reckon, maybe 10...non-stop for 1.5 hours.....that'll burn some calories!

Just takes determination...or maybe its inspiration...either way, If I can do it, so can everyone else.....
18 months ago I had high blood pressure, smoked 1.5 to 2 packs of cigarettes a day and was winded if I walked around the block.
16 months ago, I quit smoking.
12 months ago, I started walking......and quit taking my blood pressure meds.....didn't walk far and didn't power wallk...got winded easy....
10 months ago, I started doing the power walking and long cross country hikes.....
I kept it up till last fall.....then let lifestyle changes push me away from my power walking and winter set in....
About a month ago, i started back up....I'm now up to power walking, non stop, no hard breathing....8 to 10 miles at a time.....
I'm 52 and have never been an athlete....
Like I said, if I can do it, so can anyone else.

The exercise will help with the healthy mind. My outlook changed considerable when I started exercising regularly.

I'm in TC.
I did do a little excersice today. Power shopping!!! With an added benefit of putting a smile on my face
I started walking on the beach for an hour with a friend this week. I couldn't believe how much better I felt.
She has lost 40lbs just by walking during the past year. It's easier for me to be motivated if I do it with someone else.
