My thoughts exactly Jade........To me materials are pencils, paper, pens, notebooks, etc etc...BUT A LAB TOP!!!! ..I called the college the day I received the letter..There's no class that requires a Lab top....Problem is it was only verbal......Nobody will put it on paper... Every college I ever went to had a computer room.

Because of the wording of the court order; and my ex getting the money, she'll continue to do this each semester---heck it's free money to her if it's $ 400 a month or $ 600 a month...

I really need to hire a lawyer and request modification once my daughter turns 19 (May) ..That money needs to go to someone besides my ex and through the courts......

Spitfire's comment really has me worried...I could see my ex coming after me four years from now IF she thought she had chance on any stipulation....

Advice welocome.....

The court may not change where you pay the child support.  Especially if your daughter is still living with your ex.

Some states continue support through college.

A lot of (if not most these days) colleges actually do require students to have their own computers. For most, a laptop really does make more sense than not as they can take them to class and take notes on it.

At the college that my son attends they don't require a computer, BUT..........it is convient for him to have his own computer to do homework, and papers, when the lab is closed or instead of taking a load of books and papers to the computer lab.  Plus, he has a hard copy saved on it.  They suggested not a laptop because it can get stolen easily, but, I wish we would have gotton one for him instead.  As for you paying support while she is in college.  A lot of decree's do have that in them.  Mine I signed off and would have to take him back to court.  Even though she may not be living at home most of the time.  There still is insurance, other expenses, (car expenses) and believe it or not if she is like my son he comes home frequently.  Which is added cost for me, I made sure that I would get a two bedroom apartment, and food for us both to eat.  And there is a difference between what I eat when I am by myself and what he eats, along with lots of water for warm showers lol......I guess my point is, there are much added expenses that do not stop when the magic age of 18 comes around.  I heard that I would get help without a court order.........but each time I mentioned something, it didn't get done.  So it seems at least on my end.........I continue to support my children until they are done with school.  Where as the "visiting" parent just can't seem to wait til they are 18 sometimes, and they are done.....doesn't seem quite right.
