My ex has changed our child from Public to Private school.  There is nothing wrong with the public school, the ex just wanted it that way.  What kind of legal financial reponsibility do I have here?  I was not involved with the decision (even though we have joint custody).  This could be a large financial challenge.  I pay my child support on time plus more for extra's.

I was just wondering how the law works.........

Thanks

Your Ex can choose to enroll your child in private school, and barring something in the joint custody agreement, you probably should just let that happen. However, unless your combined incomes are greater than those covered by the guidelines, I know of no reason why you should be required to pay more child support because of the CP's decision.

Lee,

I don't have a problem with her going to the school.  My concern was how this will affect a child support calculation and what my responsibility will be.  What are the guidelines you are refering to?

Thanks.

http://www.divorceinfo.com/alchildsupport.htm  this links you to the Alabama interactive calculator which figures your obligation assuming mother is the CP

http://www.divorceinfo.com/statebystate.htm  this links you to the state pages and you can choose your state if you are not in AL and then follow the links to the interactive calculators on those state pages.

good luck

I can't use the calculator due to security, but the combined income is around $100k.....
