I need help.  My stbx mother died 2yrs ago and we bought the house for a amount that she had set before she died. This amount was substancialy less than the apprasied value. We had to pay off the 2 brothers thier portion out of the estate. I need to know if this is considered an inheritance to my stbx because if it is then do I or do I not have rights to this house as community property

Sounds like only 1/3 was inherited but that amount would be based on what the brothers paid for each of their 1/3.  Community property should be the the appraised amount minus the amount he inherited.  The powers that be may not do math in a logical way though.

And it also depends on what you and your STBX have done with the property while you've owned it. If you've used it for marital purposes or invested in it from marital funds, it makes the property look more like marital property available for division in a divorce. Here, I gather that you used marital wealth to buy your STBX's siblings out, so that's marital.
