As a former legal secretary, I know that sometimes things fall through the cracks.  There is a big difference between "oops!  We didn't include the silverware in the settlement agreement" and "Oops! we didn't get a final decree".  A thorough secretary/assistant/attorney should have a check sheet or some similiar device to make sure things like that don't happen though.  I'd advise anyone seeking a divorce to familiarize themselves with the process, procedures, and documents and make sure each is filed and retain copies of such.  What a horrible shock to find out you are still married to someone you thought you'd divorced years ago...
