DHR
« on: February 25, 2010, 01:21:09 AM »

Just curious How long does it take once you take child support to DHR to hear something back from them?  Had a friend file on his ex to get child support because going through his attorney wasn't getting him any where.

DHR will only enforce an existing Court Order...is there one in place?

Yes there has been one in place since 2003.  To even include an additional $150 a month for arrearages.  Theres been I don't know how many with holding orders also.

If there is an order in place, it really just depends on the local office.  The one I dealt with in Iowa was really on top of things....took them about a week to get things done.  On the other hand, I have heard horror stories about how slow and ineffective DHR in Bama is.

Best bet would be to get an appt and go sit down with the case worker to see if you can't get a fire lit imo.

My friend attempted to go to DHR to speak with case worker but was informed that it doesn't work that here. So yeah ummm I think he is going to talk to someone at the state capital level.  The ex should have been in jail 2 years ago but was given countless chances to start paying.  and is now right around 15000 behind in child support and no insurance and no medical bill payment (50/50). So...

I think DHR will help with child support services. This is a quote from the website:

The Alabama Department of Human Resources has agreements with child support attorneys around the state to provide legal representation. It is the attorney's duty to pursue the legal steps necessary to enforce or establish child support obligations from non-custodial parents. The attorney represents the State of Alabama only. Regardless of whether you receive TANF or not, no attorney-client relationship will exist between you and the child support attorney.

The child support attorney can address matters of child support only. If an action is filed relating to custody, visitation or any matter other than support, it will be necessary for you to seek private counsel to represent your interests in these issues.

My husband's ex got help from DHR within a month. Of course it was discovered she lied.....but they did establish her case and contact my husband.

DHR definitely helps with child support services... but they're by no means quick.

here, you can go to the office and fill out a form they have a stack of them in the reception area that has spaces for all kinds of information about your case/your x/etc.

if you were in my county, you would go get a form, fill it out and write in x's name, his current employer, employer's address, etc. and then turn it in. You will get a form letter in about 30 days saying it takes a while to process your form and once they have the IWO submitted to your x's employer after verifying employment etc. it can take another 30-60 days before you get a CS check.  Just saying it's isn't fast even if they are helping you.
