My divorce papers say that the CP and NCP are each responsible for half of our son's college costs.  It further says that the NCP's costs will be covered by my alabama disabled veterans benefits.  I read about the NCP sometimes having to pay additional money during the child's first year of college).

Due to this statement in the papers, what are the chances that I might have to come up with additional money?

Also, what happens if the CP fails pay their half?

thank you all in advance for your feedback

I'm only going to address the "NCP may have to pay additional monies during the first year". What people may be referring to is that in AL child support goes until the child reaches age 19 and many kids start college soon after turning 18 or do some college while still in high school. This means the the NCP pays the regular child support amount to the CP plus pays for 1/2 college expense normally directly to the college.

I've seen this several times on the board.
