My STBX and I have been married for just over a year.  He let his house go and we bought a manufactured home.  We put it on my parents land.  We bought a new truck, and a new travel trailer.  I have been unemployed for a year.  He has made the payments on everything.  I have bought all the groceries, and such with my unemployment benefits.

Here are my questions.  We are in Texas.

He received Social Security back pay of 40,000.  He did give me 15,000 to pay on my credit card bills, that we charged up almost to the max.

I know he is entiled to half the Manufactured home.  However, can he leave me with all the debt, as in truck, travel, trailer, etc.?

Would he be allowed to get 1/2 the money I will receive in profit sharing in March?

Will I be responsible for paying back 1/2 of his social security?

Thanks for any help.

With such a short-term marriage, the courts generally try to bring both parties back to where they were when they entered into the marriage. However, it sounds as though there's enough debt involved that that may not be possible. In that case, they'll probably try and equalize it as much as possible.

I don't know much about the property division laws in TX, but I do know that TX is a community property state. Don't take my word for it, because I truly don't know, but I have the impression that the property division is much more mathematically driven in TX than it is in equitable division states like mine.
