Considering divorcing my husband. He is on diasability and I carry him on health ins. through my job. He has no chance of getting health insurance on his own - I have read on these boards about health insurance being ordered by the courts. How do I go about using that as an option in reaching a settlement? What documentation needs to be provided to my employer to keep him on the policy after we're divorced?

Your employer/insurer may not allow you to keep him on your policy. You need to check with them to find out (a) if they'll allow it and (b) what documentation they'd require. If could be, if the court orders it, you'll have to pay for private insurance for him.

Another option would be to do this as a legal separation rather than a divorce. There are several disadvantages to legal separation, but one advantage is that many employers - not all, but many - will allow you to continue to provide health insurance for your legally separated husband. Almost none of them would allow you to keep him on your group insurance after a divorce.
