Can anyone recommend vision insurance in the state of Alabama?  Also what about dental insurance?

I'm in AL and have had some vision and dental insurance.  From what I've paid before and the actual costs that I've paid out of pocket, I came out much better just saving up and paying for it myself.

the premiums were more than any of the benefits I ever received.

example - I paid $30 a month for Dental ins for 12 months - that's $360 for the year in premiums.  there was a $50 copay on cleanings.  I went 2x, so paid an additional $100. The visit was $178 for cleaning, fluride, and x-rays. The insurance covered the $120 worth of x-rays taken.  I felt like I got suckered big time.

now, we don't pay for vision insurance because quite frankly, it was the same deal.  eye exams for 2 adults and 2 kids and glasses and contacts for 2 adults and glasses for 1 child were less money paid out of pocket than the insurance premiums.

shop carefully, but if I were you, I'd just start planning to pay for it out of pocket.  Wal-mart Vision Center has been very economical for us.
