A few months back I lost my job of 25 years in corporate America.  Living in a small town there were no possibilities of earning what I was accustomed to so I am now a real estate agent.  And as you can imagine not faring too well.  I would love to continue supporting my children based on the rate when I was salaried but it is now impossible.  How is income determined when you are in sales/independent contractor and have no idea what it will be?

You need to file NOW to change child support, because right now it's continue to accrue at the rate the judge ordered. Contact child services, which should be able to help you with the filing at a nominal cost.

If the judge is satisfied you're not voluntarily underemployed, your income for child support will be your guarantee (which is probably zero) together with whatever the judge believes to be reasonable given your track record.
