Are you trying to get SSDI or SSI?
SSDI is based on your disability and ability to work. (If you are able to work and earn $1000 a month or more, you are not disabled under social security guidelines.
SSI is based on finances- if you have too much money in the bank, you wouldn't be eligible for it:
For ssi applicants, this limit is currently set at two thousand dollars, meaning that if an ssi claimant's countable assets are in excess of this amount, their claim will be denied without a medical evaluation ever being conducted.
also keep in mind that spousal support will affect SSI.
