Hello all. I have been separated for almost two years now. My STBX asked me for a divorce out of the blue my last semester of college. I did not want to divorce, but moved out, hoping the distance would help us get some perspective on the relationship. However, we continued to see each other as "Friends with benefits." I received papers from his attorney stating the terms of the divorce, which were unsatisfactory to me, and I didn't want to sign. He then told me that he would not allow me to get the rest of my things, until I signed the papers. So I did. So stupid of me I know!!! I didn't even consult an attorney! I kn ow better than to do this, I feel like such an idiot. My question is, since the divorce is not final, can dispute the terms of the agreement since it was signed under duress? I need help ASAP, as I signed the papers almost two weeks ago. Thank You- spedec

You need to retain an attorney.

ditto what annie said - first thing tomorrow - retain an attorney and file a reply of some kind to stop it from going forward as you signed it.

Thanks guys, I guess I knew I needed an attorney. I just hate to think that the person you spent so much time with, planning a future together, would take advantage of an already agonizing situation. I think the fact that I never hired an attorney is probally some form of denial. Time to smarten up I suppose. This sucks!

As been said here many times before, marriage is about love, divorce is about business.
