Why I File Divorces in Elmore County

Alabama laws governing venue for divorce cases allow two parties who are reasonably cooperative to file their divorce in any county they wish, and the same principle holds true for a joint petition to modify a divorce decree. There's no requirement that either party be a resident of the county where they file. I file all my uncontested divorces in Elmore County, for three main reasons:

First, my wife and I are farmers, and our farm is in Elmore County. Filing documents in the county where I farm helps me keep costs down, and as you probably know by now, I am all about keeping costs low so I can keep my prices low.

Second, Elmore County moves more quickly than some other counties. In most cases an uncontested divorce I file in Elmore County will be effective within about six weeks of the filing date. A divorce I file in other counties might take significantly longer.

Third, I e-file all the documents in Elmore County. This saves me the time of traveling to and from the courthouse. Again, this allows me to keep my prices low.

Because this page talks about my legal practice, I need to say this: No representation is made that the quality of the legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.
