Live More Simply

Divorce often forces us into it, because the money is so tight. (Check out the budget page for more info on this.) But one of the many opportunities available in divorce is that we can embrace this necessity and turn it into a graceful gift. We can resolve to live more simply. I've also added a page about the decision to live in a smaller world.

If you're not ready to hear this, you probably haven't even made it to this page. If you're ready to hear it, though, I'd love to share some ideas with you.

  • Lose the premium channels on your cable TV.
  • Lose your pay-per-view converter.
  • Lose cable altogether.
  • Lose TV altogether.
  • Walk and ride your bike more and use your car less.
  • When you drive in your car, use your radio less and embrace silence more.
  • Set aside a few minutes each day for quiet prayer or reflection.
  • Give money away.
  • Give stuff away.
  • Throw stuff away.
  • Eat less meat.
  • Eat less.
  • Drink water, juice, and milk more, soft drinks and alcohol less.
  • Bake bread from scratch in your own kitchen.
  • Take a nap.
  • Read some history.
  • Write some poetry.
  • Hum, sing, or whistle, even if you have a tin ear.
  • Walk outside and find something beautiful (or not-so-beautiful) that's growing; then just stare it for a while. Then stare at it some more.
